It might seem like a strange time of year to talk about black out blinds as the mornings are still fairly dark but now is a great time to start using them if you’re not already as the mornings are starting to get lighter and (happily) spring is on its way! In a month or so’s time the mornings will be a lot earlier and this is when my inbox is full of emails from parents who’s little cherubs who are waking up far too early. One of the best ways to avoid this is to create an environment that keeps the early morning sun out, and to do it before early waking becomes a habit.
In an ideal world you’d black out your little ones bedroom completely but thats quite a challenge so don’t worry if you can’t manage it. There are a lot of products on the market to help, when my two were little we used blackout blinds with over sized black out curtains over the top to help with the light that comes in around the edges. Make sure that any light that comes in isn’t shining onto the cot or bed, if it is could you move things around to help with this?
Always darken the room for naps as well as at night to keep sleep time associations consistent.
If your little one is already waking early and you’d like some help with that get in touch.
