As many people know, current advice for most babies is to start weaning at 6 months old, but it can be tempting to start a bit earlier with the hope that it will fill your baby up and help them to sleep better at night.
For a baby to sleep through they need to take in enough calories during the day to sustain them during the night, but you need to be a bit careful because the solids we wean our babies with are lower in calories than their milk. So weaning early to get a better nights sleep rarely works as often the baby fills up on solids and ends up leaving some of their bottle, or loves their solids so much they don’t want their milk. This means that although your baby is full up, they have actually eaten less calories which is a step backwards!
My advice would be to wait until 6 months to wean your baby unless otherwise advised by your baby’s health professional 🍼
Keep those day time milk calories up for night time success!
